1993 Emmitt Smith attracts attention

emmitt 2 of 9 107 51

This gem, another card I hadn’t seen before this week, sold for $107.51 on eBay this week.

It’s the 1993 Emmitt Smith Profiles card 2/9. Although it doesn’t look like a usual 2/9 card, it is a shot of Emmitt with his letter jacket from Escambia High School, in Florida. My guess is it’s as close as he would let them get to a picture from his childhood. But that’s just a guess.

The card received 26 bids, not including mine. My high was going to be $50, but it got way past that. So I had to back out. But that’s two of the nine Emmitt cards I’ve seen autographed. Still looking for the rest.

A milestone for the Certified Pro Line Autographs blog

In 1991 Portraits on March 10, 2013 at 4:41 am

Good news, everyone! The Certified Pro Line Autographs blog got its first link from another website. Huzzah!

A business professor called Vince who has his own blog about the sports card collecting hobby takes a very insightful and humorous look at a certain 300-card set released in 1991. Vince doesn’t pull any punches and points out some of the many flaws of the set.

The site has a little background on the feathers that the NFL ruffled with the players’ union when the set came out.

And he also mentions the innovation of inserting autographed cards into the foil packs, and he points the way to this blog! Yay!

And for that, we are returning the favor, complete with a link to his Pro Line post on his Junk Wax blog.

Thanks, Vince.

Deion 1/9 does exist!

Two of the Deion Sanders 1992 Pro Line Profiles 1/9 cards, autographed and certified, have sold on eBay in the past two months.

This was a card that, not too long ago, I wasn’t sure even existed.

In a previous post about my first scouting report, I noted that Paul & Judy’s Coins & Cards of Arcola, Ill., was convinced that Deion had not signed and returned any of the nine-card set.

That obviously is not the case.

However, what I am not seeing in the completed auctions on eBay are cards 7/9, 8/9 and 9/9. The other six I’ve actually seen. Those three I have not.

And, when looking at the market data of completed auctions, the buyers of these two 1/9 cards got pretty good deals, one of them in particular. The most recent sold for 15.50, and an earlier one went for 24.06.

If you compare that to other Sanders Profiles cards, those prices are not bad. Good, in fact, if you consider what may be the scarcity of the card.

As of the writing of this post, i had seen only two 1/9, two 3/9 and two 6/9 cards for Deion. The 2/9 and 4/9 appear to be more common.

But I have found the 2/9 and the 4/9 to sell from $11 to $22. So $24 is not too bad for a card that I’m assuming is fairly rare. And the $15.50 price is great. Congratulations to that lucky bidder.

So if anybody has seen the 7/9, 8/9 or 9/9 cards, give me a shout.

Haven’t seen this Franco Harris before

This 1993 Pro Line Profiles Franco Harris card sold for $33.85 on eBay not too long ago. It’s No. 6 of 9.

Nothing exceptional about this post, other than pointing out that I hadn’t seen this card before.

Carry on.
